Getting Ready for My 1st 5K Race in Almost Six Years!

I'm running my first 5K race on May 30th, which is the North Brunswick Memorial Day 5K.  This is the first or four 5K races of The Brunswick Cup.  In this series, they total the three fastest times to determine the overall winners.  The last 5K race I ran was on July 30, 2005.  It was the NY Mets Run to Home Plate at Shea Stadium and I finished it in 21:24 (6:54 pace).  My fastest 5K race was on July 22, 2004, which was the Nike Run Hit Wonder in Central Park.  I finished that race in 20:57.  These are the only 5K races I ran since I started competing again in 2003! I should easily break the 20:00 barrier (maybe even 19:30) as I had very good runs during my Marathon Recovery Month and here is my first week of training after that month:

5/17:  First track workout since I was in high school on Guam!  Ran with the RVRR at the Highland Park High School track.  Ran a 2-mile warm-up followed with 8x800m repeats with 400m recovery.  Splits = 2:56, 3:04, 3:05, 2:56, 2:54, 2:55, 2:49, 2:49.  Total Mileage = 8 miles.
Weather: 62/62/84%; ENE13; Cloudy.

5/18:  Highland Park RVRR Club Run.  Ran 4.38 with Dennis in 49:57 (11:24 pace) as he prepares for his first 5K race (North Brunswich Memorial Day 5K).
Weather: 65/65/81%; ENE12; Cloudy.

5/20:  Marlboro Retro Fitness.  Treadmill 6's and 7's. Started with 5-minute warm-up at 10:00 pace.  Increased incline to 6% at MP (7:13 pace) for 90 seconds, followed with 0% incline at 10:00 pace for 60 seconds.  Increased incline to 7% at MP (7:13 pace) for 60 seconds, followed with 0% incline at 10:00 pace. Completed six reps followed with a progressive 2-mile run (6:37, 5:51), then a 5-minute cool down. Total mileage = 7.25 miles (8:14 pace)

TOTAL MILEAGE = 19.63
